Ryan Gosling to Star in New Shawn Levy’s ‘Star Wars: Starfighter’, Set for 2027 Release

In Shawn Levy’s next ‘Star Wars: Starfighter’, which is slated for release in May 2027, Ryan Gosling will formally enter the Star Wars universe.  Levy validated the long-running rumour and brought Gosling on stage to announce the Star Wars Celebration event in Tokyo, Japan.

The 44-year-old Gosling, a lifelong fan of the franchise, even displayed to the crowd a photo of his mother’s ‘Star Wars’ bed linens from his early years. She likely shared them more to defend her years of stockpiling than for any other reason, he said.

He acknowledged that he was probably dreaming about the saga before he had even seen it, and he said that Star Wars had greatly influenced his perception of movies and narrative.

Levy has confirmed that Starfighter will be a stand-alone instalment in the franchise rather than a prequel or sequel, despite the fact that the film’s elements are yet unknown.  “It’s an original story with new characters and a world that has never been shown on screen before,” he said.  Following the events of ‘Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker’, the movie takes place.

Gosling said he couldn’t think of a better director than Levy to bring the story to life, and he admired the script, describing it as passionate and full of adventure.  This fall, production is scheduled to start.
