During an interview, the singer explained that her choice to cast Keoghan was based on his talent, stating, “It was a not-even-biassed opinion.” She noted that it helped that he was conveniently next to her during the decision-making process.

When asked about casting Keoghan as her love interest while keeping her personal life private, Carpenter laughed and said she was simply looking for “the greatest actor” for the part, adding that Keoghan was enthusiastic about the project.
His love for the song further cemented the choice, with Carpenter revealing, “He likes the song, which is great. He's a fan.”
Carpenter has been discreet about her relationship with Keoghan since rumours first surfaced, maintaining a reserved stance. However, she shared her admiration for Keoghan in a previous interview, calling him “one of the best actors of this generation.”
She also expressed how his presence in the music video elevated it, making the project even more special.
