Sabrina Carpenter Rejected for Role on ‘The Conners’; Whitney Cummings Shares Her Reaction

Recently, Whitney Cummings thought about how show business is unpredictable and how rejection frequently opens up better opportunities. The comedian discussed her career lessons and tenacity during her speech at ELLE’s Women in Hollywood Celebration in November. Rejection is a common occurrence in the entertainment industry, she underlined, adding that it might occasionally pave the way for greater success.

Using Sabrina Carpenter as an example, Cummings disclosed that while he was a showrunner for the ABC sitcom, the singer and actress had once tried out for a part on ‘The Conners’. Emma Kenney, star of ‘Shameless’, was cast in the role instead of Carpenter. Thinking back on the choice, Cummings said that it eventually benefited Carpenter since the rejection gave her the opportunity to concentrate on other prospects that have since helped her become well-known.

Carpenter became a well-known singer after appearing on the Disney Channel’s ‘Girl Meets World’. Her singles include ‘Espresso,’ ‘Please Please Please,’ and ‘Taste.’ She is presently travelling the world on her Short n’ Sweet Tour. As an example of how saying “no” can occasionally be a secret advantage, Cummings noted that Carpenter’s career advancement might have been constrained by continuing to appear in a comedy.

The comic also talked about her own experience juggling her personal and professional lives. She recalled being counselled to put a healthy home life first and “save the drama for your work.” She talked about overcoming obstacles including bad relationships and setting boundaries, particularly during times of career triumphs, while reflecting on her own past.

Cummings, a new mother, continues to offer her knowledge and perspectives via her ‘Good for You’ podcast, in which she conducts weekly interviews with a diverse group of guests. Every major streaming service offers a podcast.
