Sabrina Carpenter Unexpectedly Joins Quinta Brunson’s ‘SNL’ Monologue About Being Petite

During the 2nd May episode of Saturday Night Live, Abbott Elementary creator and star Quinta Brunson returned as host and opened the show with a musical monologue celebrating the perks of being petite. Standing at 4’11”, Brunson performed a lively number surrounded by dancers, highlighting the humorous advantages of her height — from getting tipsy after just one glass of wine to wearing crop tops as full dresses. She dedicated the performance to fellow “shorties.” As the song continued, Brunson began name-dropping other notably short celebrities, such as Simone Biles, Kendrick Lamar, and Tom Holland. The camera then cut to Sabrina Carpenter, who made a surprise appearance, explaining that she joined because the song resonated with her. The Grammy-winning singer chimed in with a playful line about how short stories felt like full-length novels to her, drawing laughs.

SNL cast member Marcello Hernandez later stepped in, joking that standing beside the two women made him appear unusually tall. Sabrina Carpenter responded by encouraging him to embrace his height, reinforcing the monologue’s theme. The bit took another unexpected turn when former NBA star Dwyane Wade walked on stage, claiming that Brunson’s tribute to short people spoke to him as well. Though Brunson pointed out that he’s 6’4”, Wade humorously argued that in the world of basketball, he might as well be short compared to players like Shaquille O’Neal — and he simply wanted to be part of the song.
Brunson and Carpenter wrapped up the segment by referencing actor Jeremy Allen White of ‘The Bear’ and concluding that being “fun-sized” made life more enjoyable.
Elsewhere in the episode, singer Benson Boone delivered performances of ‘Mystical Magical’ and “Sorry I’m Here for Someone Else,” both featured on his upcoming album American Heart.
In other Carpenter-related news, the pop artist has just concluded the European leg of her global tour and is set to return to the UK this summer. She will headline two shows at London’s Hyde Park as part of the BST festival series, with Clairo joining her as a supporting act. Beabadoobee is scheduled to perform on 5th July, followed by Olivia Dean on 6th July.
