Sam Fender Teams Up with ‘Adolescence’ Actor Owen Cooper for Intense ‘Little Bit Closer’ Video

Sam Fender has released a moving new music video for his track ‘Little Bit Closer’, featuring a performance from ‘Adolescence’ actor Owen Cooper. The song is part of Fender’s latest album, ‘People Watching’, and the visual brings together familiar collaborators to tell an emotionally resonant story.

Shot against the striking backdrop of England’s Lake District, the video follows Cooper as he embarks on a camping trip with friends. As the story unfolds, his character begins to quietly question his beliefs and explore his relationship with faith. The contemplative tone of the video mirrors the introspective nature of the song itself.

The project reunites Fender with director Philip Barantini, best known for his work on the Netflix series ‘Adolescence’. The two previously collaborated on the acclaimed music video for ‘Spit Of You’ in 2021. That earlier project also featured actor and co-writer of ‘Adolescence’, Stephen Graham.

Fender expressed his excitement about working with Barantini again, saying he had always considered him the ideal choice for this video, especially after their successful partnership on ‘Spit Of You’. He mentioned that Barantini had approached Cooper about appearing in the video, and that Cooper had shown great enthusiasm for the role. Fender said he was thrilled by Cooper’s involvement, particularly after being impressed by his performance in ‘Adolescence’. He also praised the creative team, including Creative Director Semera Khan, for bringing the vision to life so beautifully.

Barantini shared similar sentiments, stating that the chance to direct another video for Fender had been an easy decision. He described the artist as not only exceptionally talented but also a wonderful person and close friend. Barantini also expressed joy at being able to work with Owen Cooper again so soon after their collaboration on ‘Adolescence’.

Although ‘People Watching’ was released less than three months ago, Fender has already hinted that new material could be on the horizon. He has suggested that his next musical direction may incorporate a more punk-inspired sound, something he’s reportedly eager to explore. While a follow-up album hasn’t been officially announced, fans were treated last month to the release of Tyrants — a track previously available only on limited vinyl editions.

Meanwhile, the BRIT Award-winning singer-songwriter is gearing up for a string of major live performances across the UK this summer. Among these are his first-ever stadium headline show in London at the 75,000-capacity London Stadium, as well as performances at Newcastle’s St. James’ Park.

With Little Bit Closer’s striking new video and whispers of fresh material in the works, it’s clear that Sam Fender remains a dynamic force in the UK music scene — blending storytelling, powerful visuals, and an ever-evolving sound.
