Sam Smith Drops Stormy Treat ‘Diamonds’; Dishes Out Details on ‘Love Goes’
Sam Smith just popped in with another taste of their upcoming album. This time, their offering arrives in the form of a brand new single titled, ‘Diamonds’. The tune was also accompanied by its very own music video which proves to be quite the moody treat.
Forged from stormy, sultry melodies and a groovy synth pop beat, ‘Diamonds’ draws you in from the get-go. Perhaps what makes this track such a ripe treat is the juxtaposition between the layering of a funky dance track with Sam’s melancholic vocals.
‘Diamonds’ speaks of a material love, one that Sam chooses to separate himself from. The song emphasizes how gifts replace words as a representation of love. And by letting their lover leave with their diamonds, Sam rids himself of this toxic affection. The lyrics allow for a better understanding, take a look:
Have it all, rip our memories off the wall
All the special things I bought
They mean nothing to me anymore
But to you, they were everything we were
They meant more than every word
My diamonds leave with you (Mmm)
You’re never gonna hear my heart break (Mmm)
Never gonna move in dark ways (Mmm)
Baby, you’re so cruel
My diamonds leave with you
The visualizer for ‘Diamonds’ witnessed Sam execute a stunning dance routine, within a gloomy, empty house. Towards the climax of the track, we see them step out to dance under a steadily growing storm.
Sam Smith & ‘Love Goes’
Now, Sam also arrived with a little note for fans, that revealed a bunch of details on their upcoming album. “I’m so excited to announce my third album Love Goes. This album is a collection of songs I’ve written over the last two years. Each song a separate story,” Sam wrote.
“The last two years have been the most experimental time of my life, personally but also musically. Every time I went into the studio I promised myself I would shoot for the stars and have no limitations. The result has been so magical and so therapeutic and FUN. My love for music is so broad and all of my musical guilty pleasures became pleasures. No guilt, no shame, just the love of singing and creating and dancing.”
The star concluded with “After it all I still believe love is the answer. And with love in our hearts and kindness in our words and actions, we sing on.”
“Love Goes” holds a good seventeen tracks and is set to make its landing on October 30th.
