Sam Smith Leaves You Wanting More with ‘My Oasis’

Sam Smith releases 'My Oasis'

Sam Smith and Burna Boy reassure those helplessly in love with their new release, ‘My Oasis’. The brand new single marks Smith’s return to music after 5 months. And, if you thought Sam’s reinvention as a musician was complete, you have another thought coming. ‘My Oasis’ featuring Nigerian rap superstar, Burna Boy, may be the singer’s final step in complete pop superstardom.

Sam and Their Tryst With Pop Music

When Sam Smith first broke out onto the music scene, they did it following in the footsteps of their biggest heroes – Whitney Houston, Celine Dion and more. Delivering melancholic powerhouse vocals in ‘Stay With Me’ and ‘I’m Not The Only One’, Smith quickly established themselves as the new claimant of ballads. Well, cut to 2018 and Smith began an ascent into pop personification. ‘No Promises’ and ‘Dancing With A Stranger’ saw Sam offering a new facet of themselves. And, well, with ‘My Oasis’, we arrive at the culmination of that pop experimentation.

‘My Oasis’ Leaves You Wanting More

Kicking off with a unique tropical house acoustic riff, ‘My Oasis’ commands your attention the moment you hit play. A slow trap beat, complete with sparkly ambient production sets the pace for Smith’s deep tone. With lines like: “Oh, babe, I really need you/ My feelings gettin’ deeper/ My mind is in a free fall/ But there’s nothing I can do when it comes to you”, it’s safe to say that the track is a pop plea for love. Burna Boy delivers a mellow second verse, complimenting Sam in a surprising way.

Combining the lyrical melancholy signature of Smith’s style with a breezy acoustic accompaniment, ‘My Oasis’ is disarming in its tonality.

Released as a single, ‘My Oasis’ may likely end up on Smith’s upcoming, as of yet untitled album. The track stands at a short 2:59 time stamp. And, just like an oasis, when you think you’ve got what you want, it leaves you wanting more.
