‘Scream 7’ Director Pays Tribute to Late Wes Craven as Filming Begins

Kevin Williamson is enjoying working on ‘Scream 7’ behind the camera.

Recently, the creator of the renowned franchise shared his experience on set with an Instagram post that included a film slate titled “Day One,” expressing his excitement about directing the upcoming sequel. Williamson, 59, started his caption by admitting that he didn’t intend to provide any information about the movie but felt obliged to do so after experiencing “one of the best days of your life.”

He called the day “extraordinary,” praising the cast and crew for their extraordinary talent and their unwavering support. Williamson also took a moment to pay tribute to the late Wes Craven, who directed the 1996 original ‘Scream’, stating that he thought about Craven all day long. He conveyed his sincere appreciation for the chance and the long-lasting influence Craven had on his life and profession.

‘Scream’ (2022) and ‘Scream VI’ (2023) were directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett following Craven’s passing in 2015. In March 2024, franchise star Neve Campbell said that Williamson, who authored the original Scream and its sequels ‘Scream 2’ (1997) and ‘Scream 4’ (2011), will be directing the seventh chapter. Campbell also revealed that Williamson would be returning as Sidney Prescott.

In addition to his writing credits, Williamson is credited with inventing the iconic teen drama series Dawson’s Creek and writing ‘I Know What You Did Last Summer’ (1997). In 1999, he directed his first film, ‘Teaching Mrs. Tingle’.

Neve Campbell, 51, is a member of the cast of ‘Scream 7’, which also features Anna Camp, Celeste O’Connor, McKenna Grace, Asa Germann, and Sam Rechner. Campbell’s on-screen daughter will be portrayed by Isabel May. Additionally scheduled to return is Mason Gooding, who starred in ‘Scream’ (2022) and ‘Scream VI’ (2023). It has been confirmed that Courteney Cox will play Gale Weathers again.

Guy Busick wrote the screenplay for ‘Scream 7’, and he and James Vanderbilt, who worked on the first two movies in the series, wrote the story.

On 27th February 2026, ‘Scream 7’ will be released in theaters.
