Sebastian Stan Opens Up About Struggling to Shed This Role Before Filming ‘Thunderbolts’
Sebastian Stan recently opened up about the challenges he faced transitioning from his role as Donald Trump in ‘The Apprentice’ to reprising his iconic character, Bucky Barnes, in ‘Thunderbolts’. After completing the Ali Abbasi project, Stan found it difficult to shed Trump’s mannerisms, which lingered as he began filming for ‘Thunderbolts’.
Reflecting on the experience, Stan admitted that even during some scenes for Thunderbolts, he could feel traces of his previous character creeping in. “We were doing scenes, and I would do something, a thing or two, and be like, ‘F**k! This is still living somewhere,’” he said.

Stan’s portrayal of Trump has garnered significant media attention, largely due to his ability to truly embody the character. It was more than just an impersonation, as Stan committed deeply to the role.
His preparation included adopting a diet of Coca-Cola and peanut butter and jam sandwiches to gain weight for the part, which later complicated his efforts to regain his superhero physique.
The shift back into shape for ‘Thunderbolts’ proved challenging, particularly as filming schedules were disrupted by the writers’ strikes. Stan had to juggle his physical transformation, with his body adapting to different roles within short periods.
Now in his forties, the actor acknowledged that getting back into superhero shape was no easy feat. Stan spoke about the dedication and hard work required to achieve Bucky Barnes’ iconic look once again, despite the physical toll it took.
