Selena Gomez Admits ‘Some of the Magic Has Disappeared’ Amid Emilia Pérez Controversy

In a recent statement, Selena Gomez said that the controversy surrounding her movie ‘Emilia Pérez’ has made her feel less enthralled with the project.

Speaking recently at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival, Gomez said she is still happy with the work she performed, even though the recent criticism has damaged her. She stressed her appreciation and dedication to the movie, even if she acknowledged that the experience had lost some of its original thrill. She added that she has no regrets and would be happy to work on the project once more if given the opportunity.

Her co-star Karla Sofía Gascón’s rediscovered social media posts, which contained inflammatory sentiments that provoked accusations of racism and Islamophobia, are the source of the scandal. A specific tweet that purportedly called Gomez a “rich rat” in the context of her previous dispute with Hailey Bieber went viral. Gascón, however, has refuted the statement, saying the post was a hoax.

Gascón defended herself in an interview with CNN en Español saying that many of the rediscovered messages were completely fake or taken out of context. In an attempt to undermine her historic Oscar nomination as the first openly transgender actress in the Best Actress category, she implied that the timing of the response was intentional.

Another ‘Emilia Pérez’ co-star, Zoe Saldaña, has also spoken out, expressing her displeasure and sadness about the incident. Although she cannot speak for Gascón’s behaviour, she said in a recent podcast interview that she never thought the movie would get involved in such a dispute.
