Gomez’s new film, ‘Emilia Pérez’, is a Spanish-language musical directed by French filmmaker Jacques Audiard. The film’s synopsis describes a visually bold journey following four women in Mexico, each on a quest for happiness. The plot centres on Emilia, a powerful cartel leader, who enlists the help of lawyer Rita to fake her death, allowing her to live authentically as herself.

During Carpenter’s show at Madison Square Garden, Gomez attended with friends and shared clips on Instagram, including a moment where she danced to the song “Juno.” She also tagged her boyfriend, Benny Blanco, in the post, further showcasing her fun night out.

At the Toronto Film Festival premiere, Gomez spoke about her role as Jessi Del Monte, wife of cartel leader Emilia Pérez, who is on a mission to fake her death. She expressed the personal connection she felt with the character, revealing, “I ended up developing a character who is very similar to myself.”

Gomez also highlighted the importance of Latinx representation in the film, saying, “I’m really glad we were able to make her Latin American because that’s who I am,” underscoring her pride in portraying her heritage on screen.
