Selena Gomez Hints at ‘Wizards of Waverly Place’ Return
Selena Gomez is preparing to return to her role as ‘Wizards Beyond Waverly Place’s’ Alex Russo sooner rather than later. As she celebrated the show’s remarkable premiere audience on Disney+, the 32-year-old singer and actress made a hint about her comeback. She thanked viewers for tuning in and teased that Alex would be returning soon in an Instagram Stories post recently that included a screenshot of an article highlighting the show’s great viewership.
Gomez said at the spin-off’s launch that she was thrilled to be playing her beloved character from ‘Wizards of Waverly Place’, which ran from 2007 to 2012. “It felt amazing to introduce the series to new audiences and evoke nostalgia in longtime fans,” she said. Gomez also recognized the influence of the original series on her career, calling it the cornerstone of her achievements.

In the new series, David Henrie’s character Justin Russo is trying to lead a typical, non-magical life with his family when Alex unexpectedly shows up with Billie (Janice LeAnn Brown), a young wizard-in-training. As he balances mentoring Billie with leading a normal life, Justin eventually finds himself back in the magical realm.
Henrie, who is currently 35, told PEOPLE that he and Gomez wanted to establish a new “family” dynamic on ‘Wizards Beyond Waverly Place’ that viewers would experience on screen by emulating the strong, encouraging environment of the original set. Disney+ offers the spin-off series for streaming.
