Selena Gomez Mocked For Her Kidney Transplant

Selena Gomez has been one of the warriors of Lupus, an autoimmune disease. Though many of us see her in light of being stronger than ever, there has been some controversial stuff happening around her kidney transplant.

“Saved By The Bell”-2020, a reboot of the 90s hit show has been in the news for all the wrong reasons. The show, apart from being reviewed as boring, distasteful has hit a new low, further disappointing its fans. During one of the episodes of the show, Selena Gomez’s 2017 kidney transplant is made fun of. This has caused outrage among its fans and rightly so.

So, What Happened?

The episode that has captured the world’s attention features a conversation between students speculating who Selena’s donor is. And, that’s caused enough to damage the reputation of the show.

The conversation goes, “I know for a fact that Selena Gomez’s kidney donor was Justin Bieber’s mom,” one character said. “God, I wish that I had my phone so I could prove it.” Another shot shows a wall reading, “Does Selena Gomez even have a kidney?” in spray paint. The other student responds with “Prove what? That you’re an idiot?”. “It was Demi Lovato’s kidney. They’re best friends…like you and I were.” Ouch.

This did not go down very well with viewers across the world and especially fans of Selena Gomez. The viewers find it very unclear why the makers that to even write a scene which includes such a sensitive topic, given the singer’s narration about the same which took place in September of 2017.

Fans Bring Internet To A Halt

Fans of Selena Gomez went on a spree of posting pictures and thoughts, calling out the show for its distasteful joke, on social media. And, trust us, nothing was out of limits.

The Apologies Begin…

Following this, PeacockTV apologised via an interview, “We apologize. It was never our intention to make light of Selena’s health. We have been in touch with her team and will be making a donation to her charity, The Selena Gomez Fund for Lupus Research at USC,”

Her donor and former roomie, Francia Raisa also responded to Peacock’s apology: “Appreciate the apology but let’s not forget about the donors that potentially felt offended and dismissed from the spray paint written on the wall,” “As a kidney donor I want to show love and let other donors know that you are not alone…” she continued.

The show has definitely hurt sentiments of people across the world. But here’s hoping the issue is put to rest soon and the audience is treated to more informed fun content. Well, we hope so.
