Selena Gomez Opens Up About Past Insecurities That Inspired Her New Song with Benny Blanco

Selena Gomez is talking more about her fears and challenges.

The 32-year-old singer and actress recently spoke with Chris Olsen on SiriusXM’s ‘TikTok Radio IRL’ about how her previous self-doubts influenced the song ‘Younger and Hotter Than Me,’ which is part of her and fiancé Benny Blanco’s new album, ‘I Said I Love You First’.

The spoken-word title track of the album opens with a tape of Gomez expressing gratitude to the ‘Wizards of Waverly Place’ cast and staff as the show came to a close.  Her early career was heavily influenced by the Disney Channel series in which she portrayed Alex Russo.

Gomez clarified that Blanco found the video on the internet and thought it was significant. She characterized it as a turning point that closed a significant chapter in her life and signaled the beginning of her career.

‘Younger and Hotter Than Me’, a song in which Gomez examines the anxiety of being replaced in a relationship, opens the introduction. Given the song’s intensely intimate content, Blanco wanted to contribute to its dissemination.

Olsen noted the connection between the song’s topic and ‘Wizards of Waverly Place’, a television program that followed Gomez from adolescence into her early adulthood. Everybody feels insecure at some point, whether it’s at a party or in daily life, she acknowledged.

Gomez said that those ideas still occur, even though she feels more confident today than she did when she was younger.  Although she admitted that there will always be someone more interesting or alluring, she made it clear that she doesn’t want to concentrate on this attitude.

‘I Said I Love You First’ is now out.
