Selena Gomez Playfully Calls OMITB Co-stars 'Childless Cat Ladies' at 2024 Emmys

Selena Gomez made a memorable impression at the Emmy Awards by playfully teasing her ‘Only Murders in the Building’ co-stars, Martin Short and Steve Martin. During the presentation of the first award of the evening, Gomez joined Short and Martin on stage, where the comedic banter quickly turned into a lively exchange.

As Short joked about Martin's age, saying, “Steve, let me say what an honour it is to be working with someone who looks like he's fallen and can't get up,” Martin countered with a humorous remark about Short’s appearance.

Gomez added her own witty comment, stating, "And let me say, what an honour it is to work with two men who are this far away from being childless cat ladies." This playful jab drew laughter from the audience, highlighting the camaraderie between the trio and Gomez’s sharp sense of humour.

The remark resonated beyond the event, as it echoed a recent social media post by Taylor Swift, who had endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris with the phrase “childless cat lady.” Swift's post was a nod to a term used by Trump's vice-presidential pick, J.D. Vance, which had sparked controversy. In response, Harris' vice-presidential pick, Tim Walz, embraced the term in support, calling himself a “fellow cat owner” and thanking Swift for her endorsement.

Gomez’s comment not only entertained but also tied into the broader political and cultural conversation. Following the joke, Short and Martin highlighted Gomez’s status as a first-time nominee at the Emmys, prompting Gomez to playfully question if it was "awkward" that they were competing in the same category.

This blend of humour and cultural reference made Gomez’s appearance at the Emmys a standout moment, demonstrating her ability to blend personal wit with current events.
