Selena Gomez Responds to Body-Shaming Critics After Red Carpet Appearance

Social media’s growing power has led to severe criticism of influencers and celebrities, particularly about their bodies. Selena Gomez is accustomed to this kind of criticism, as her most recent incident demonstrated. BuzzFeed reports that Gomez was present at the American French Feature Festival in Los Angeles for the premiere of her most recent feature, ‘Emilia Perez’. Some on the red carpet observed the actress’s hands resting on her lower abdomen as she posed for pictures. She looked lovely in a classic black ruched dress.

On social media, especially TikTok, where a video of Gomez at the event generated emotions, discussions regarding her appearance swiftly gained traction. One commenter mentioned that she might have been hiding her stomach because she had read disparaging remarks about her figure the day before. One person lamented the fact that she appears to be singled out all the time, calling it “heartbreaking,” while another referred to the internet as her worst critic. Since then, this video has been removed.

“This makes me sick,” Gomez said in a direct response to the circumstance. “My small intestine has SIBO. It erupts. The fact that I don’t resemble a stick figure doesn’t matter to me. That’s not my body. The narrative is over. I am not a victim, please. I’m only a person”. For those who do not know, SIBO, or small intestine bacterial overgrowth, is caused by a slowing in the passage of food and waste products through the digestive system, which results in an overabundance of bacteria. Nutritional problems, discomfort, and bloating are some of the symptoms of the illness.

Gomez still has a big influence on the business in spite of the criticism. According to reports, she is a candidate for an Academy Award for her role in ‘Emilia Perez’, which at this year’s Cannes Film Festival earned an 11-minute standing ovation. Her hand placement during the premiere was interpreted by some as a subliminal reaction to the body-shaming she had endured in the past.
