Selena Gomez Reveals Her Dad’s Pride in Her Spanish for ‘Emilia Pérez’ Role
Selena Gomez recently expressed how proud her father is of her performance in the Spanish-language musical comedy ‘Emilia Pérez’. The 32-year-old actress attended the premiere of her new project at the 62nd Annual New York Film Festival at Lincoln Center. In an interview with Extra, Gomez revealed that her father, Ricardo Joel Gomez, was thrilled with her portrayal of Jessi Del Monte. She shared her gratitude for director Jacques Audiard, emphasising how much the role meant to her and her family.
Gomez described the experience as a “blessing” and hoped viewers would appreciate the message behind the film.

She also spoke about her unique experience performing the musical’s dance sequences and the cathartic release that came with passionately singing the film’s songs. She further explained the personal significance of speaking Spanish in the role, mentioning the support she received from language coaches throughout the production. “It meant the world to me that [Jacques Audiard] trusted me with that,” Gomez shared, adding that her dad was particularly proud, noting how they even communicated through texts in Spanish.
In addition to Gomez, the film stars Zoe Saldaña, Edgar Ramírez, Karla Sofía Gascón, and Adriana Paz.

Saldaña spoke with PEOPLE about the strong bond she shared with her castmates, highlighting the mutual respect and camaraderie on set. ‘Emilia Pérez’, which premiered at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival, received two awards and has been well-received at multiple festivals.
The film will be released in select theatres on 1st November and will stream on Netflix starting 13th November.
