Selena Gomez recently opened up about why she no longer sleeps in her own bedroom, revealing that the space reminds her of a difficult period in her life. Speaking at the Wondermind Mental Fitness Summit, which she co-founded with her mother Mandy Teefey, Gomez candidly discussed how she associates her bedroom with a “really dark time."

While her mother shared that she tends to "rot in bed" when feeling anxious, Gomez admitted that she avoids her own bedroom altogether. "I spent so much time in my bedroom that I actually don’t even sleep in my bedroom anymore," she explained, highlighting the emotional weight the space carries for her.

Reflecting on her mental health struggles, Gomez described how anxiety had once left her bedridden for years. She said, "Being anxious is so debilitating sometimes. I didn’t want to leave my bed for years." However, she emphasised the importance of self-work, noting that even small acts, like watching a show, can help lift the burden.

Gomez has long been an advocate for mental health awareness. In her documentary ‘My Mind & Me’, she shared her journey with bipolar disorder, including a time when she experienced sui**dal thoughts before being hospitalised. Her openness has inspired many, as she continues to break the stigma around mental health issues.

Despite her progress, Gomez admitted that she still faces challenges, particularly with sleeping disorders. The night before the summit, she revealed that she couldn’t sleep until 4 a.m., saying her mind was racing. 

"I just kept saying over and over again, ‘This will pass.’ And of course, eventually I fell asleep." Selena remains committed to mental health advocacy, highlighting how important it is to ask for help, even during the darkest times.
