Selena Gomez Says Fiancé Benny Blanco Helped Her Create First Album in 5 Years

Selena Gomez's new album is inspired by Benny Blanco, who is also her fiancé.

 Ahead of the release of their joint album, ‘I Said I Love You First’, Gomez recently spoke with Rolling Stone about how Blanco helped her rediscover her love of music.  Following her 2021 EP Revelación and her 2020 full-length album ‘Rare’, Gomez said that she had taken a hiatus from recording because she felt lost and unsure of her creative path.

 She clarified that she turned to Blanco, who asked her to marry him in December 2024, at this time of confusion and frustration.  Naturally, their discussions and his knowledge of music resulted in a creative process that was entirely unlike anything she had ever encountered.

According to Blanco, they worked on the project only with close friends and kept it very private.  He urged Gomez to write down her ideas as soon as she woke up, which frequently served as the basis for brand-new songs.  For them both, this method turned into a liberating and therapeutic experience.

Singles from the upcoming album, such as ‘Sunset Blvd,’ ‘Scared of Loving You,’ and ‘Call Me When You Break Up,’ starring Gracie Abrams, have already exposed fans to Gomez's revitalised sound.

For the couple, the title ‘I Said I Love You First’ has special meaning.  According to Gomez, the album's songs incorporate both of their personal narratives, and the title depicts a real-time from their relationship.

Every song has two meanings, each of which represents a different set of feelings and experiences.  Since she was the one who said "I love you" for the first time, she also acknowledged that the moniker seemed endearing to her despite its connotation.

 The official release date of ‘I Said I Loved You First’ is 21st March.
