The film premiered at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival in May, where it was noted that Gascón’s character transitions as she nears retirement. The film’s synopsis highlights its bold visuals and musical elements, following the journey of four women in Mexico, each seeking their own version of happiness. Emilia, the cartel leader, enlists Rita (Saldaña), a frustrated lawyer, to help her stage her death so she can finally live authentically.

‘Emilia Pérez’, written and directed by French filmmaker Jacques Audiard, won two awards at Cannes, including Best Actress for its female ensemble.
