In a separate development from July, it came to light that Shakira is facing a second investigation for alleged tax fraud in Spain.

Initially charged with tax fraud in July 2021, Shakira was accused by Barcelona prosecutors of failing to fulfill her tax obligations due to residing in Spain for more than half of the years between 2012 and 2014. The alleged owed amount is approximately $13.9 million (£13 million). Shakira has consistently asserted that her fiscal residence during that period was in the Bahamas, refuting the accusations as baseless. She has maintained that she paid the owed taxes.
