Shawn Mendes Debuts ‘Nobody Knows’ With Candlelit Performance at MTV VMAs

Shawn Mendes captivated the MTV VMAs audience with the live debut of his new single ‘Nobody Knows’, a preview from his upcoming fifth album, ‘Shawn’. This performance marked Mendes’ first televised appearance from the album and showcased a more intimate side of the artist.

Mendes, who last graced the VMAs stage in 2021, delivered a stripped-down version of ‘Nobody Knows’ scheduled for release at midnight. Dressed in a black, open shirt, Mendes performed surrounded by candles, adding a personal touch to the show. His emotive delivery highlighted his vocal range, especially during the song’s powerful climax.

The VMAs line-up also featured performances by Anitta, who took the stage for the third consecutive year. She performed a medley of ‘Savage Funk’ and ‘Algeria’, and premiered her new track ‘Paradise’ alongside Fat Joe, DJ Khaled, and Tiago PZK. Anitta was nominated for three awards, including Best Latin.

Karol G, who won her first Moon Person in 2023, was also nominated in the Best Latin category this year. Her latest album, ‘Mañana Será Bonito’, was released in February 2023, marking a significant moment in her career.

LL Cool J made a notable return to the VMAs with his first performance in over 25 years, celebrating the 50th anniversary of hip-hop. Having previously won the Video Vanguard Award in 1997 and his first Moon Person in 1991, LL Cool J’s appearance was highly anticipated.

Mendes’ upcoming album, ‘Shawn’, promises to be his most musically intimate and lyrically honest work to date. Described as a “profound self-dialogue,” the album features 12 tracks that reflect a deep personal connection and artistic growth. This performance and album represent a significant evolution in Mendes’ career, offering fans a new, introspective side of the artist.
