Sir Elton John Performs at The Oscars
What better way to ring in the Oscars than with a stunning performance from Elton John! John performed “(I’m Gonna) Love Me Again,” from the award winning biopic ‘Rocketman’. This song has also scored a nomination for the Best Original Song by John and longtime collaborator Bernie Taupin.
Clad in a vibrant violet suit, with a sprinkle of glitter, John took his place behind a dazzling red piano before a soulful delivery of ‘Love Me Again’. Oh and not to mention the fact that he was accompanied by a whole orchestra, while up on the screen, a series of animated figures flashed by, representing the movie.
If you were wondering, Rocketman, is an epic musical fantasy about the one and only, Sir Elton John played by Taron Egerton. The story follows John, from his early days in the music industry, battling the crippling pressures that arrive with fame to his breakthrough years. It’s a tale of passion, growth and success as the timid piano prodigy, Reginald Dwight, transforms into the awe inspiring Elton John.
The film features a string of brilliant tracks spread across John’s many albums, but ‘(I’m Gonna) Love Me Again’ is an original number written just for the movie. It was produced by John’s lifelong friend, Bernie Taupin, who he’s been working with since 1967.
It was a night like no other, as not too long after his performance, the musical legend walked away with the prestigious award.
While this might’ve been Taupin’s first win, it was John’s second one as he also bagged the award for ‘Can You Feel the Love Tonight’ from The Lion King, along with co-writer Tim Rice.
It was clearly a big night for Elton John and hopefully, this will spur him to continue making soundtracks for many more movies to come.
