Sophie Turner, known for her portrayal of Sansa Stark in ‘Game of Thrones’, recently commented on the possibility of returning for a potential ninth season. Despite the mixed reactions to the show’s controversial finale, fans remain devoted to the series. However, Turner’s remarks suggest that a return to Westeros might be unlikely.
In an interview with Variety to promote her upcoming series ‘Joan’ Turner was asked about reprising her role as Sansa. She responded with a “maybe,” but outlined specific conditions for her comeback. “If it weren’t for the same cast and crew, I wouldn’t return, and that would just be Season 9,” she explained. Although she expressed love for the character, she doesn’t foresee a new season happening.

Turner also shared her curiosity about where Sansa’s journey would lead after the show’s ending. She reflected, “Five years later, where would she be? Would she still be queen in the North? Could she rule effectively? Would there have been another war?” These thoughts demonstrate her connection to Sansa, but she stopped short of expressing any concrete plans to revisit the character.
Her comments highlight a significant challenge for any potential continuation of ‘Game of Thrones’: without the original cast and crew, it would feel like a simple extension of the previous seasons. Despite the backlash over the show’s final season, the high production value set a standard that would be hard to replicate.

Since the show’s end, Turner has continued to pursue diverse roles in projects such as ‘Joan’, ‘Do Revenge’, ‘X-Men: Dark Phoenix’, and ‘The Staircase’. Given that Sansa Stark ended her journey in a positive place, Turner’s fondness for the character remains, but her terms for a return make it clear that a revival is far from certain.
