Spice Girls Will Be Releasing a 25th Anniversary Edition of ‘Spiceworld’

Spice Girls’ 1997 album ‘Spiceworld’ will be released in a new, extended edition for its 25th anniversary.

The band’s self-curated album ‘Spiceworld 25’ combines the original chart-topping record with some of their favourite bonus tracks, B-Sides and previously unreleased live recordings from the Virgin Records vault.

“The ‘Spiceworld’ era was such a fun time for us,” said Spice Girls in a statement. “We’d just had a number one album with Spice, we were travelling all over the world and meeting our amazing fans, we released our second album and we had our very own movie! Who would’ve thought it? It’s crazy to think that 25 years have passed.”

A selection of live tracks from their 1997–1998 North American, European and UK tour are included on the digital deluxe version of the album, along with a brand-new ambient remix of ‘Viva Forever’ by John Themis, who later collaborated with Emma Bunton on the song ‘What Took You So Long.’

Along with vinyl and cassette versions, the Spice Girls will also release a 25th anniversary edition of ‘Spiceworld’ as a 2-CD/hardback book combo.

The 25th anniversary edition of the Spice Girls’ first album, ‘Spice,’ was released last year. The deluxe re-release comes after that.

Mel C has more recently expressed her disagreement with Geri Halliwell’s 1996 remarks in which she referred to Margaret Thatcher as the first Spice Girl.

“They were never the thoughts or feelings that I shared,” said Mel C. “People knowing me, from the things I do, are quite aware of what kind of person I am. I don’t think people think I’m a raging Tory!”

Mel C also provided information regarding a potential Spice Girls reunion tour. In 2020, it was announced that the group was getting ready to go on a world tour to celebrate their 25th anniversary. Bunton said last summer that she was confident the band would perform again after COVID, and Mel C has since stated that the band “wants to do shows, they’re just not planned yet”.
