Sting Performs ‘I Burn For You’ Live for the First Time in 34 Years

Sting has revived the rare track ‘I Burn For You’ live for the first time in 34 years.

‘I Burn For You’ is regarded as one of Sting’s most elusive songs. He initially wrote and recorded it with his first band, Last Exit, in the 1970s. In 1981, after joining the Police, the band re-recorded the song, but it was only ever released on compilation albums, never a full-length album. During a show in Ontario, Canada, on 21st September, Sting surprised the audience by performing the song live for the first time since 1990.

Fan-shot footage of the performance can be seen below.

While Sting had played ‘I Burn For You’ during several sound checks in 2022, this marks the first time the track has been played live before an audience in over three decades. Earlier this year, the song also appeared in the Police’s ‘Synchronicity’ box set.

Last month, Sting collaborated with high-wire artist Philippe Petit as Petit recreated his famous Twin Towers walk. To celebrate the 50th anniversary of his 1974 unauthorized tightrope walk between the World Trade Center's Twin Towers, Petit recreated the feat at Manhattan's Cathedral of St. John the Divine, while Sting performed his songs ‘Fragile’ and ‘Fields of Gold’ alongside a live orchestra.

Sting also debuted a new track titled ‘Let the Great World Spin’ from his upcoming musical about Petit.

In other news, Sting is currently touring North America.
