Stormzy and Maya Jama Have Called it Quits

Stormzy and Maya Jama have announced their breakup on Instagram. The rapper and TV presenter began dating in 2014 but split in 2019; they rekindled their relationship last August.

Taking to social media, Stormzy and Maya Jama humorously admitted they never imagined they would be the couple announcing a breakup. They shared that for clarity and to give themselves the space and grace needed to navigate this next phase of their lives peacefully, they decided it was best to make the announcement.

They explained that they spent the past year trying their best to make it work but recently decided to part ways. Having met when they were 21 and 20 and just starting their careers, they spent five years growing together and five years growing separately. This final attempt required a lot of figuring out, relearning, and unlearning, but ultimately, it didn’t work out, and they are okay with that.

The pair clarified that they still think highly of each other, continue to care and respect one another, are grateful for the time they’ve spent together, and remain friends. They mentioned that if they’re seen catching up at events like The BRITs, there’s no need for any fuss as they are still close.

They acknowledged that announcing the breakup feels dramatic but explained that they are doing it to minimize drama and avoid speculation and rumors. They kindly asked for the grace to allow both of them to move on without being bothered, even though they doubt it will completely prevent public interest.

Recently, Stormzy revealed in a conversation with Vince Staples in London that he has been focused on creating music for the past two years. Since the release of his last album, 2022’s “This Is What I Mean,” this has been the first time in his career that he’s made music without the intention of creating an album. Previously, music was a very clinical process for him, always album-focused and intentional. Unlike other artists who feel the need to hit the studio to express themselves, Stormzy felt he could talk to his friends instead. For the past two years, he’s simply been creating without any specific goal in mind.

In other news, Stormzy and Adidas have announced a new #MerkyFC HQ center dedicated to football, music, and gaming.
