‘Suicide Squad’: Margot Robbie Calls This Movie Stunt the 'Most Unpleasant' She's Ever Done

Margot Robbie is arguably the most popular actress in the world right now, especially after fueling the Barbenheimer craze surrounding the releases of ‘Barbie’ and ‘Oppenheimer’. At one point, her fame was so overwhelming that she even expressed concern in an interview with Deadline about people possibly becoming "sick" of seeing her on screen. Despite her impressive career, there have been moments Margot Robbie didn't enjoy as much. In discussion with the Washington Post, she revealed her "least favourite" acting experience, describing a particularly unpleasant stunt.

Robbie's least favourite moment came from the 2016 film ‘Suicide Squad’. In one scene, her character Harley Quinn dives into an acid bath to demonstrate her love for the Joker (Jared Leto). Although the Joker initially seems pleased, he soon rescues Harley from the acid, with her skin appearing to melt away. Robbie recounted how the "gluggy paint" used in the scene was extremely uncomfortable, clogging her eyes, ears, mouth, and nose, and obscuring her vision. This experience was even more uncomfortable compared to her previously mentioned embarrassment over filming a full-frontal scene in ‘The Wolf of Wall Street’.

The scene's disappointment is compounded by its lack of impact on the characters' relationship. Harley's jump into the acid was meant to signify a crucial moment in her relationship with the Joker, but it felt underwhelming and vague, failing to fully explore their toxic dynamic. Robbie herself admitted in the Washington Post interview that she initially found the relationship frustrating and only later understood the co-dependent nature of it.

Despite the discomfort of this particular stunt and the film’s mixed reception, Robbie's portrayal of Harley Quinn was well-received. She continued to be praised for her role in ‘Birds of Prey’ and James Gunn’s ‘The Suicide Squad’. The character even inspired her own animated series, ‘Harley Quinn’, voiced by Kaley Cuoco. Robbie also mentioned in an interview with Variety her desire for Harley Quinn to be a role passed on to other actresses. With Lady Gaga now taking on the role for ‘Joker: Folie à Deux’, it seems Robbie's wish has come true.
