Sydney Sweeney Promises ‘Barbarella’ Remake Will Be “Worth the Wait”

Leading the ‘Barbarella’ remake, Sydney Sweeney is venturing into space for her most ambitious part to date, and she promises that fans will be well worth the wait.  In addition to starring in the upcoming sci-fi revival, the ‘Euphoria’ and ‘Anyone But You’ actress is also acting as executive producer, contributing her artistic vision to the reinterpretation of cult classics.

 The ‘Barbarella’ remake, which was first planned in 2022, has developed slowly, and few details have been made public.  Sydney Sweeney, however, just affirmed that the project is still very much in progress.  Although she was unable to provide specifics, Sydney Sweeney indicated an intriguing path throughout the interview, revealing that she had just returned from a narrative and script meeting in London.  Sydney Sweeney stated that the lengthy wait would undoubtedly be worthwhile and that the movie is coming together in a "fun and big" fashion.

Edgar Wright, who is renowned for his visually striking and genre-savvy work (‘Baby Driver’, ‘Last Night in Soho’), will direct the new ‘Barbarella’ remake. Jane Goldman (‘Kingsman’, ‘X-Men: First Class’) will write the screenplay.  The movie is a remake of the 1968 science fiction classic, which stars Jane Fonda as an intrepid space traveller.  The 41st-century setting of Fonda's ‘Barbarella’ followed the title character as she was chosen to prevent the villainous scientist Durand Durand from releasing a lethal weapon called the Positronic Ray.

 Based on Jean-Claude Forest's French comic book, the original movie has since achieved cult status for its combination of trippy storytelling, futuristic visuals, and a fearless female heroine.  With its blend of high-octane action and visual extravaganza with vintage charm, Sydney Sweeney's rendition promises a contemporary updating.

Despite the fact that ‘Barbarella’ has already seen several unsuccessful revival attempts, including ones involving Rose McGowan and Anne Hathaway, Sydney Sweeney's affection and innovative leadership seem to have given the project fresh life.  In a funny acknowledgement of the glacial pace, Sydney Sweeney said that ‘Barbarella’ is still very much on her radar and that her 30s are turning out to be a career-defining decade.

 With the combined skills of Jane Goldman, Edgar Wright, and Sydney Sweeney, the ‘Barbarella’ remake is set to be a bold and spectacular new interpretation of a science fiction classic.
