SZA has finally released her much-awaited brand new track ‘Shirt’. Before the song's arrival was officially announced earlier this week, the singer hinted during her performance at Austin City Limits earlier this month that an official video for the eagerly anticipated tune, which she previewed during a livestream show last year, will be released soon.
The song is the most recent sneak peek from the singer's follow-up to her critically lauded 2017 debut, ‘Ctrl’. While earlier stating that she was not in a rush to release the album, SZA recently disclosed that she had written 100 songs for it and said that it may be released "any day now."
She previously remarked of the new album: “It’s a little bit of everything. It’s a little aggressive. Some parts are incredibly soft. Some of them are ballads. I don’t know. It’s all over the place. It’s just where my heart is.”
You can see SZA and Stanfield go on a Tarantino-inspired criminal rampage in the new music video for ‘Shirt’ below.
SZA has released a few singles since the release of ‘Ctrl’ in 2017 and has been featured on numerous other artists' songs. She collaborated with Kendrick Lamar on the Black Panther soundtrack cut ‘All The Stars’ in 2018. The Ty Dolla $ign-assisted singles ‘Hit Different’ and ‘Good Days’ were two of her singles released in 2020. She also released ‘I Hate U’ the previous year.
SZA released a deluxe version of ‘Ctrl’ in June to mark the album's fifth birthday. A different version of the Travis Scott duet ‘Love Galore’ was added in the new edition, along with the previously unreleased songs ‘2AM,’ ‘Miles,’ ‘Percolator,’ ‘Tread Carefully,’ ‘Awkward’ and ‘Jodie’.
