With his most recent picture, ‘Keeper’, renowned horror filmmaker Osgood Perkins is once again breaking the mould. In keeping with Perkins' distinctive style, the first teaser for the next thriller has been released, and it is anything but traditional. Distributor Neon chose to use an unnerving livestream instead of a typical trailer, in which Tatiana Maslany (‘She-Hulk: Attorney at Law’) continually writes something in an unsettling loop while staring at the camera. It's a mysterious first look that foreshadows the dark future.
‘Keeper’, another daring addition to Perkins' expanding horror repertoire, is scheduled for release later this year. Unlike his earlier works, such as ‘The Monkey’ and ‘Longlegs’, he enters a new subgenre this time. The narrative centres on a couple who hide out in a remote cottage in the woods, portrayed by Tatiana Maslany and Rossif Sutherland (‘Orphan: First Kill’). Tatiana Maslany's character is left to face a horrific apparition concealed within the cabin's walls when Sutherland's character is summoned back to the city. Although the idea may seem like a standard haunted house scenario, sources indicate the movie delves far further, examining surprising thematic and narrative depths.

In a recent appearance on Collider's ‘Ladies Night’, Tatiana Maslany hinted at the movie, stating that ‘Keeper’ is different from other horror films. "It exists in its own strange universe," she said, expressing her love for movies. It was exciting to watch the preview with the audience. I can't wait for others to have that experience.
On roll is Osgood Perkins. Despite being well-known for earlier works such as ‘Gretel & Hansel’, ‘I Am the Pretty Thing That Lives in the House’, and ‘The Blackcoat's Daughter’, he received significant praise for Longlegs in 2024. Comparable to ‘The Silence of the Lambs’, the picture, which starred Maika Monroe and Nicolas Cage, combined crime drama and psychological horror. Together with an incredibly inventive marketing strategy, ‘Longlegs’ emerged as one of the year's most notable horror films.
Never one to sit back and enjoy success, Perkins went on to create the terrifying version of Stephen King's short story, ‘The Monkey’. The picture, which starred Theo James in two parts as traumatised twin brothers, was praised by both reviewers and fans for its blend of terror and nostalgia, solidifying Perkins' position as a major force in the horror genre.
Osgood Perkins seems poised to test and excite audiences once more with Keeper, a highly atmospheric story that offers more than just jump scares.
