Taylor Swift To Graduates: “I Missed Mine Too”

There is a sense of solidarity in the air as a number of big icons who have joined YouTube’s Dear Class of 2020 commencement programming have given us all some words to live by. Taylor Swift, too, spoke to the graduates of 2020 from her heart.

In the YouTube video, Taylor Swift said, “So it wasn’t exactly what I pictured, but I was still really proud of it. And I guess one good lesson to come from it is expect the unexpected, but celebrate anyway. I’m so proud of you guys and I hope that you have a wonderful time and are really proud of yourselves.”

Though she didn’t perform she was seen speaking in a cute striped shirt in her home.

Taylor Swift added saying, this is probably “not the graduation you thought you were going to be having. I relate to that in a lot of ways. When I was younger I used to fantasize about high school graduation and being with all of your friends and cap and gown and the whole thing. Then when I got to that point in my life where graduation was coming up, I found myself on radio tour with my mom in rental cars, sitting on the floors of airports, and I ended up being mailed my diploma.”

2020 is clearly a wild year and it is remarkable that the world recognises that the class that graduates this time is unlike ever. And in that they are probably special for having a virtual graduation. Though I can’t imagine the pandemic is a big hit when it comes to memories you want to have from your high school days.

Even though Tay Tay missed her’s voluntarily it is heartening to see her try to relate to this very peculiar situation the graduating students have found themselves in.
