Taylor Swift Pauses London Eras Tour to Fix Piano: 'This Is in the Wrong Key'

Out of tune, not out of style!

During a recent Eras Tour stop at Wembley Stadium in London, Taylor Swift encountered a piano mishap while preparing to perform ‘Champagne Problems’ from her 2020 album ‘Evermore’. The issue arose on her fourth night in the city and was captured by a fan in the audience.

In the video, Swift plays a short melody on the piano before pausing to introduce ‘Evermore’, the sister album to ‘Folklore’. As she continued playing, she noticed something was off, saying, “I need to… this is in the wrong key. I just need to get to the keyboard,” while trying to open the instrument’s lid, which was artistically covered in decorative moss. Struggling to figure it out, she asked, “How do I get into here?”

A stagehand dressed in black quickly came to her aid. “I just know this is in the wrong key,” Swift told him as he adjusted the piano. Once the issue was resolved, Swift thanked him and cheerfully said, “Alright, awesome!”

She then addressed the crowd, noting the rain, “It’s raining, isn’t that nice? I think when it rains for more than six minutes, we can officially declare it a rain show. Rain shows are very, very special. Rain shows only choose a crowd that is fun enough to party and dance in the rain.”

Excitedly, she added, “Well, I’m very excited that now we get to sing ‘Champagne Problems’ in the rain, London!”

This wasn’t the first time Swift has dealt with a piano malfunction on stage. Earlier this summer, during a performance of a mashup between ‘Getaway Car’ from ‘Reputation’ and ‘Out of the Woods’ from ‘1989’, her piano acted up, leading her to quip, “We have finally broken this thing,” as she peeked under the lid.

Swift’s London tour dates have attracted several celebrity guests since the show’s return to the city on including Lena Dunham, Channing Tatum, Zoë Kravitz, Taylor Lautner and his wife, Malala Yousafzai, and Meg Ryan.
