Remaking the 1992 romance thriller ‘The Bodyguard’ is apparently the latest high-profile project that Sam Wrench, the acclaimed filmmaker of ‘Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour’, is working on. Known for his Emmy-winning and Grammy-nominated work, Wrench will collaborate with Warner Bros. on the next movie, according to several outlets.
The update was released by Warner Bros. Pictures execs Mike De Luca and Pam Abdy, demonstrating the studio's faith in Wrench's ability to reinvent the well-loved original. The original ‘Bodyguard’, which starred Whitney Houston as a threatened international pop singer and Kevin Costner as a former secret service agent, made nearly $411 million at the box office. Its iconic qualities also contributed significantly to its success.
Its legendary soundtrack, which featured Houston's version of ‘I Will Always Love You’ and other immortal tunes, also contributed significantly to its appeal.

‘Juror No. 2’ author Jonathan A. Abrams is writing the screenplay for the remake. Nevertheless, no casting information has been disclosed.
This new opportunity is probably a result of Wrench's recent success with Swift's The Eras Tour movie. When it was released in March 2024, the concert documentary shattered records and became the most-watched music film on Disney+. It included an acoustic set after credits and additional songs not seen in the theatrical version. In terms of total box office receipts, the film had the largest opening of any concert film, second only to Michael Jackson's ‘This Is It’.
Wrench has further solidified his reputation for creating aesthetically spectacular, emotionally impactful musical films by directing significant productions for singers such as Andrea Bocelli and Billie Eilish in addition to his work with Swift.
