During the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards, Katy Perry's speech appeared to strike a chord with Taylor Swift. Perry, 39, was honoured with the Video Vanguard Award and, during her acceptance speech, humorously remarked that the LGBTQ+ community had shown her "you can be both kind and c---."
Taylor Swift, 34, seemed to agree with the sentiment. In a viral social media clip shared by Bustle, Swift was seen turning to her friend and collaborator Jack Antonoff, 40, smiling as he pointed to her while she nodded in response.
Throughout the night, Swift was spotted dancing and singing along to Perry's classic hits, including ‘E.T.,’ ‘Teenage Dream,’ and ‘California Gurls’ during a medley performance by Perry. The show of support comes just months after Perry attended Swift's Eras Tour in Sydney, where the ‘Firework’ singer posted a backstage photo with Swift and a video of her singing along to ‘Bad Blood,’ a song believed to reference their past feud.

In a 2020 interview, Perry opened up about how she and Swift reconciled, explaining to Howard Stern that their differences had been blown out of proportion by the media. She noted, "Gossip in life can take the elevator, but the truth takes the stairs." Perry expressed gratitude that they were able to publicly make amends, offering a positive example of reconciliation to young girls.
Swift was one of the night’s biggest winners, heading into the VMAs with 12 nominations and leaving with multiple awards, including Video of the Year, Artist of the Year, and Song of the Summer. During her acceptance speech for best collaboration, Swift praised Post Malone, calling him "ridiculously talented" and "unfailingly polite." In response, Malone jokingly said, "Yes, ma’am," and added that Swift is one of the "kindest and most talented" people he's had the honour of knowing.
The 2024 MTV VMAs were broadcast live from New York's UBS Arena on 11th September .
