The 2022 Grammy Awards Have Been Officially Postponed

According to reports, the Grammy Awards 2022 have been
postponed indefinitely due to fears about the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. The
annual awards show has been postponed for the second year in a row due to
COVID-19.

According to Variety, a spokeswoman for the Recording
Academy acknowledged the publication delay, but no new date has been set as of
yet. The event was scheduled for January 31 at the Crypto.com Arena in Los
Angeles (formerly known as Staples Center).

The postponement comes as cases of COVID-19's Omicron variant continue to climb in the United States and around the world, causing many concerts, tours, and sporting events to be postponed or cancelled. According to Variety, enough artists and music business figures raised reservations about attending the Grammys 2022 to persuade the Academy that a later date would be preferable.

According to the publication, the Academy and its
broadcaster CBS are planning to put on a complete show this year, with a live
audience, as opposed to last year's scaled-down affair. The 2021 ceremony was
held on March 14 at the Los Angeles Convention Center, rather than its usual
arena location, with a rotating audience of nominees changing every 45 minutes.
Last year's programme featured many pre-recorded acts as well.

The MusiCares Person of The Year concert, which will
honour Joni Mitchell, will most likely be rescheduled for the week following
the new date, though this has yet to be verified.

Trevor Noah is still set to host the Grammy Awards 2022 for the second year in a row. Jon Batiste is the most nominated artist for the Grammys in 2022, with 11 nominations. Billie Eilish and Olivia Rodrigo are up for a total of seven prizes, while Justin Bieber, Doja Cat, and H.E.R. are up for eight.

Last month, the head of the Recording Academy addressed The Weeknd's Grammy boycott, saying that the singer's decision "doesn't influence us or insult us." After being snubbed for his critically acclaimed album 'After Hours' at the 2021 event, the artist vowed not to submit his songs for consideration at the awards show again.

Drake, on the other hand, was nominated for Best Rap Album and Best Rap Performance this year, but withdrew his nominations. He has not stated why he decided to drop out of the running.
