‘The Goonies’ Cast Reunites for 40th Anniversary & Debunks the Film’s Biggest Rumour

Reuniting for a nostalgic celebration, ‘The Goonies’ cast paid a special visit to Washington, D.C.

Ahead of the cherished 1985 movie's 40th anniversary in June, Sean Astin, Corey Feldman, Martha Plimpton, Kerri Green, Robert Davi, and Joe Pantoliano gathered at Awesome Con. Titled ‘Hey You Guys! The Goonies Reunion’, a panel discussion and fan Q&A hosted by PEOPLE's Breanne L. Heldman, featured the reunion.

Plimpton, 54, shared her personal story and clarified that prior to recording her response, she had actually never seen a ship.  Pantoliano, 73, assertively said that one take was sufficient when asked how many were required for her reply.

 The 53-year-old Feldman reflected on what he thought was the nicest aspect of shooting those scenes: the pool.  He revealed that the water was heated from the ship to the waterslide, creating a memorable experience.

In recent months, the cast members have been seeing each other a lot.  At the TCL Chinese Theatre in Los Angeles, Feldman and Green, 58, reconnected with Josh Brolin, Jeff Cohen, and screenwriter Chris Columbus to commemorate Ke Huy Quan's hand and footprint ceremony.  Feldman, Cohen, and Green went to the ‘Love Hurts’ premiere that same night, which starred Astin and Quan.

The concept of a long-awaited Goonies sequel reappeared during the Awesome Con panel, and Feldman and Quan both stated their continued enthusiasm for it.  The ensemble expressed their enthusiasm for Steven Spielberg's participation in the Goonies' reimagining and their continued optimism for the project.  Plimpton implied that a sequel was likely to occur regardless of whether the original cast was participating, while Feldman underlined the significance of preserving the adventure.

 Both cast members and fans continue to honor the memory of the cherished movie as ‘The Goonies’ anniversary draws near, hoping for yet another exciting journey.
