The ‘Hamilton’ Cast is Standing for A Cause
This one’s for all you hardcore ‘Hamilton’ fans out there, ya’ll better gear up, because the entire broadway cast has found their space on the all-star lineup for the upcoming “Global Goal: Unite for Our Future” concert.
Okay, just for some context, Global Citizen and the European Commission have joined hands to organize this brand new virtual concert. It aims to turn the spotlight on the manner in which the global coronavirus pandemic has impacted marginalized communities.
A little earlier in the week, we got a taste of the star-studded lineup which will feature performances from the likes of Miley Cyrus, Coldplay, Justin Bieber, Jennifer Hudson, Usher and a ton of other stars. The concert will be preceded by a summit. This will encourage governments to make commitments to ensure that COVID-19 tests are more equally distributed, accessible, and affordable.
Now, adding to this mix is none other than Lin-Manuel Miranda and the original cast of ‘Hamilton’ teaming up with Jimmy Fallon and The Roots to perform at this event.
The Broadway show, presently holds the label of a “landmark American musical”. It has won not just a Grammy in the ‘Best Musical Theatre Album’ category. The musical has also scored 11 Tony Awards and the Pulitzer prize for drama.
The Cast of ‘Hamilton’ Hope to Make A Bold Statement
As the #BlackLivesMatter Movement gains momentum, the cast of Hamilton are also well aware that this is going to be much more than a simple performance. As the fight for racial justice continues, ultimately it’s art that creates a spark in many. It’s art that speaks, that reflects and that arrives with enough hope to get you through the day.
Speaking of this opportunity Onaodowan (one of the cast members) had this to say, “I’m very excited to see how [the show] inspires this movement. I’m excited for young kids who are out there, who are upset and angry. They can watch this and realize they can put their energies through writing, through challenging the people who are telling you things that you don’t like to hear like Hamilton did.”
Well, we can’t wait to see how this event unfolds on the 27th.
