'The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping' Casts 'Conjuring' Star

The star-studded cast of the next ‘Hunger Games’ film is gradually growing.  Lili Taylor will play Mags Flanagan, the 11th Hunger Games champion, in ‘The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping’, which will be released in theatres on 20th November, 2026, according to the official ‘Hunger Games’ X account.  In addition to her performances on film like ‘American Crime’, ‘Six Feet Under’, and ‘The X-Files’, Taylor is a three-time Emmy nominee and well-known for her portrayal of Carolyn Perron in ‘The Conjuring’.

Maya Hawke, best known for her roles in ‘Inside Out 2’ and ‘Stranger Things’, was just revealed to be playing Wiress.  The 34th Hunger Games champion, Beetee, played by Kelvin Harrison Jr., who starred in ‘Mufasa: The Lion King’, joined the cast yesterday.

A teenage Haymitch Abernathy, portrayed by Joseph Zada, assumes the character of Woody Harrelson and competes in the 50th Hunger Games in ‘Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping’, which is set 24 years prior to Katniss Everdeen's story.  Jesse Plemons plays Plutarch Heavensbee in the movie, a position that was formerly occupied by the late William Seymour Hoffman. Given that this was Hoffman's last appearance, Plemons had a significant job to fill.  McKenna Grace as Maysilee Donner and Whitney Peak as Lenore Dove Baird are two other noteworthy cast members.

Billy Ray is bringing Suzanne Collins' well-loved novel to the big screen, and veteran director Francis Lawrence is back to oversee the endeavour.

There is currently no available footage for a ‘Sunrise on the Reaping’ trailer.  Fans will probably have to wait a bit before seeing any official previews because filming is set to begin in July.  However, we should anticipate several character stills to build anticipation and tease the film once filming starts.  Although the exact date of the first trailer's release is uncertain, it is anticipated to happen early in the upcoming year, with the complete trailer being released closer to the movie's November 2026 release.

On 20th November, 2026, ‘The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping’ will be released in theatres, so mark your calendars accordingly.
