It comes after Queen guitarist Brian May hinted that he would perform alongside bandmates Roger Taylor and Adam Lambert at the occasion.

They will kick off the event, which will commemorate the monarch’s 70 years on the throne.

The guitarist told the Zoe Ball Breakfast Show recently that he doesn’t think that he is authorised to tell anyone, but he thinks that something might happen. He previously performed a guitar solo of the national anthem on top of Buckingham Palace for the Queen’s Golden Jubilee in 2002.

Since Elton John is currently on a European tour, his performance will be pre-recorded.

The show, which will be held in front of the palace with a 10,000-person audience, is one of many events scheduled to commemorate the Queen’s 70th year as queen of the United Kingdom. BBC One and Radio 2 will air it live.

In March, a ballot for 5,000 tickets was opened; some tickets will also be given to selected charities.
