The Rooftop Concert ‘The Beatles: Get Back’ Gets IMAX Screening

The Beatles’ iconic rooftop concert on January 30, 1969, at their Apple Corps’ Savile Row headquarters will debut as a 60-minute feature in IMAX later this month. On January 30, The Beatles: Get Back – The Rooftop Concert will be premiered in theatres, marking the 53rd anniversary of the band’s final public performance.

The 60-minute film follows Peter Jackson’s critically praised three-part documentary The Beatles: Get Back, which debuted on Disney+ on November 25, last year. While Jackson’s film already features the entire concert, the archival footage and audio will be remastered with proprietary IMAX DMR (Digital Remastering) technology and optimised for IMAX screens.

After the screening, Jackson will attend a special Q&A session, which will be broadcasted simultaneously to all IMAX locations. The screenings are currently only available in the United States.

“I’m thrilled that the rooftop concert from The Beatles: Get Back is going to be experienced in IMAX, on that huge screen,” Jackson said in a statement. “It’s The Beatles’ last concert, and it’s the absolute perfect way to see and hear it.”

The Beatles: Get Back – The Rooftop Concert will have a global theatrical release from February 11-13, following its premiere on January 30. On February 8, Get Back will be released on Blu-ray and DVD in the United States.

Get Back is a collection of roughly 60 hours of never-before-seen material from the making of ‘Let It Be.’ The footage was initially intended for American filmmaker, Michael Lindsay Hogg’s 1970 documentary, which covers the making of the band’s final studio album.

Following its release, Jackson defended the documentary series’ lengthy runtime, noting that he wanted to cover everything “essential.” Jackson told NME that he was afraid of leaving out anything important, claiming that if he hadn’t, it would have taken “another 50 years” to uncover.
