The Weeknd Has Disclosed His Journey So Far
With a new year comes new beginnings and especially so for The Weeknd. The star has had many glorious moments in the past year. On Dec. 16th, he opened up about his journey to fame and what fans can expect in the coming year.
The interview saw The Weeknd looking at his journey so far in retrospect. The singer said, “My natural singing voice was inspired and shaped by Ethiopian music,” reflecting on his evolution as a singer.
“The older I got, I was exposed to more music, and my voice became a chameleon going into different characters with each album. By following my own path and breaking industry norms, it seems to be influencing others.” The Weeknd continued in the interview that is to be featured in a 100-page magazine that will be dedicated to the pop star alone.
The Year That Has Been
The Weeknd has had to put off his “After Hours Tour” plans until the summer of 2021 owing to the pandemic. This certainly hasn’t held the star from creating more music. The singer has utilised this time to work on his upcoming projects trying to find the inspiration amidst the year that has been in 2020.
“I have been more inspired and creative during the pandemic than I might normally be while on the road…The pandemic, the Black Lives Matter movement and the tensions of the election have mostly created a sense of gratitude for what I have and closeness with the people near me,” The Weeknd said.
The Weeknd Talks “After Hours”
The R&B star also reflected on the graph that his career has taken beginning right from his early trio of 2011 mixtapes to the latest chartbuster After Hours.
The Weeknd said, “I was laser-focused back then and I’m laser-focused right now. This has been the story of my 20s.” he said. “I feel like I spent the last 10 years creating a sound and most of my career, I’ve either been running away from it or duplicating it. “After Hours” was the perfect piece of art for me to show my tenure in the industry,” talking about the same.
The track that released just a week since the pandemic hit in March, “After Hours” debuted at the top of the Billboard 200. The feat also earned The Weeknd his fourth No.1 album of his career. The year 2020 saw him work with superstars like Maluma, Calvin Harris, Rosalia and Juice WRLD.
