The Weeknd is Enjoying Memes About Him Killing Off His Stage Name!

The Weeknd is not bothered by memes about his name changing. In fact, he finds it hilarious. When poked fun at his famous stage name with Lady Gaga’s performance on Twitter, he was quick to retweet it with a laughing face emoji.

“The assistant in the record store when I ask if they have any Abel Tesfaye albums in stock,” a fan wrote, using a clip of Gaga singing, “We only have the weekend,” on her Chromatica Ball Tour. The infamous lyric is from her biblical ‘Chromatica’ closer ‘Babylon.’

The Weeknd found this joke amusing and quoted it to express his feelings. The joke about his legal name and stage name may be funny for us now, but it could soon be more than an amusing hypothetical. He has mentioned in interviews that he would like to “kill” his longtime alter ego of The Weeknd in the future. “I’ll still make music, maybe as Abel, maybe as The Weeknd. But I still want to kill The Weeknd. And I will. Eventually,” he said. “I’m definitely trying to shed that skin and be reborn.”

He has, since then, changed his profile name on various social media platforms to Abel Tesfaye. He has also been pretty active on social media to promote his much-hyped music industry drama ‘The Idol.’
