The Weeknd has dropped the music video for the ‘Avatar’ song ‘Nothing is Lost (You Give Me Strength)’. Swedish House Mafia and 'Avatar' score composer Simon Franglen came together to produce the track.
The song was taken from the soundtrack of the ‘Avatar’ sequel, ‘Avatar: The Way of Water’, which was released in December 2022.
The music video for the song was directed by Quentin Deronzier. The film’s fictional Pandora landscape is seen with some shots of The Weeknd spread across the video. Later in the clip, the Na’vi inhabitants are forced to evacuate into the ocean as a fire approaches.
The Weeknd first teased the project in the beginning of December. It was released a day before the ‘Avatar’ premiere.
“The best part about writing the song was getting notes from James [Cameron] and making sure that all the lyrics and the tones fit the themes of the film,” The Weeknd said of the track.
The Weeknd has worked on other soundtracks in the past, ‘Earned It’ for the film ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’ in 2015 and Kendrick Lamar collab ‘Pray For Me’ for the 2018 movie ‘Black Panther’. The multi-talented artist recently worked on drama series ‘The Idol’, in which he co-stars alongside Lily Depp. He also co-created, co-wrote, executive produced and leads the cast. Sam Levinson also co-created and directed the series. It will be released later this year.
‘Nothing is Lost (You Give Me Strength)’ was on this year’s Academy Awards shortlist for ‘Best Original Song’. Lady Gaga (for her Top Gun: Maverick contribution ‘Hold My Hand’) and Rihanna (for her Black Panther: Wakanda Forever single ‘Lift Me Up’) were also shortlisted in the same category.
