Time’s 100 Most Influential People of 2022 Includes Adele And Other Musicians
On 23rd May, Time released its annual list of the 100 Most Influential People for 2022, and numerous musicians made the cut by earning slots in the artists, inventors, idols and pioneers categories for their accomplishments in the previous year.
This year’s list is stacked with women: Adele and Mary J. Blige appear in the icons section alongside recent album of the year Grammy winner Jon Batiste; Zendaya, Miranda Lambert, and Michelle Zauner appear in the innovators section; Jazmine Sullivan and Ariana DeBose appear in the artists section; and Questlove — who won an Oscar in March for his Summer of Soul documentary — appears in the innovators section.
Talk show presenter James Corden completed Adele’s blurb for the list, praising the singer’s ability to put everything into a song. He said that ‘she puts feelings into words, articulating them in a way we could never describe ourselves.’ He also mentioned that ‘she is simultaneously raw, honest and elegant. She never appears to be singing to us. She performs for us.’
Blige’s blurb was written by Nas, who noted what separated her unique style from other R&B musicians seeking to break through in the 1990s. He said that as a hip-hop musician who also sang, she quickly became a household name. He also said that someone like that was desperately needed in the industry. He later praised her for her February performance at the Super Bowl Halftime Show, writing that she was like a spokesperson for a particular type of lady coming out of New York and coming out of the streets.
On 9th June, the TIME100 Gala will bring together this year’s honorees to celebrate their achievements. Lambert and Blige will perform separate sets during the event, which will be broadcast live on ABC.
