Timothée Chalamet Opens Up About 5-Year Journey Preparing to Play Bob Dylan
Timothée Chalamet has been preparing for his role as Bob Dylan in the forthcoming historical movie ‘A Complete Unknown’ for the past five years. In an interview with the December issue of Rolling Stone, the 28-year-old actor, who plays the legendary folksinger, talked candidly about the extreme commitment the project demanded.
Chalamet clarified that he made sure no outside influences affected his performance by concentrating solely on playing Dylan for the three months of filming. He pushed himself psychologically to believe that he had given the part his best since he felt a great duty to do Dylan’s character and story credit.
When Chalamet thought back on Dylan’s journey, he saw similarities to his own career, especially with Dylan’s first difficulties establishing himself.

Dylan found his niche in folk music after failing to imitate celebrities like Buddy Holly or Elvis Presley. Chalamet also talked about how his career changed when he switched from chasing certain high-profile parts to working on independent films.
‘A Complete Unknown’, which is set in the early 1960s, centres on Dylan’s entrance into New York City at the age of 19, shortly before his ascent to stardom. The cast of the James Mangold-directed movie includes Elle Fanning, Boyd Holbrook, and Edward Norton. During filming, Fanning, who plays a character based on Dylan’s real-life inspiration Suze Rotolo, remembers being affected by Chalamet’s live performance as Dylan. According to her, his performances of songs like ‘Masters of War’ and ‘A Hard Rain’s A-Gonna Fall’ were genuine and engrossing, fusing his personality with Dylan’s.
On 25th December, ‘A Complete Unknown’ will make its theatrical debut.
