Tom Cruise Teases Post-'Mission: Impossible’ Plans at Electrifying Cannes Premiere

When ‘Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning’ premiered at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival, Tom Cruise didn’t just walk the red carpet—he electrified the entire city, sending fans and festivalgoers into a full-blown frenzy. When Cruise and his longtime creative collaborator Christopher McQuarrie arrived in style, they were met by an enthusiastic audience ready to celebrate what may be the final instalment of his renowned action franchise.

 Tom Cruise cheerfully signed autographs, took photographs, and interacted with fans along the Croisette well before the movie's premiere.  Supporters brought keepsakes from his career, such as pieces from ‘Mission: Impossible II’ and ‘The Last Samurai’.  A homage to Tom Cruise's late ‘Top Gun’ co-star Val Kilmer was even made by a fan, demonstrating the emotional bond the actor has with his fans.

Amid thunderous cheers from the crowd, the cast made their way down the red carpet as a live orchestra filled the air with the ‘Mission: Impossible’ theme.

 Before a DJ replaced the orchestra, Tom Cruise thanked festival director Thierry Frémaux from the bottom of his heart for their performance.  The movie drew multiple mid-screening ovations within the Palais, and it ended with a standing ovation that lasted almost five minutes.

 Although Tom Cruise has refrained from stating whether this is his last appearance as Ethan Hunt, his remarks following the screening provided insight into his future.  He highlighted how much he enjoyed working with McQuarrie and hinted that their collaboration will go beyond the ‘Mission: Impossible’ films.  He expressed his sincere appreciation for the viewership and the franchise's artistic development throughout the years.

McQuarrie, who went onstage with Tom Cruise, talked about how the partnership had changed him personally.  Tom Cruise, whom he referred to as the ultimate "action figure"—an actor willing to take any creative risk—inspired him when he was thinking of quitting the movie business.

 Following his successful ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ attendance in 2022, which culminated in a surprise honorary Palme d'Or and a sky display from fighter aircraft flying the colours of the French flag, Tom Cruise made his festival comeback with the Cannes premiere.  Similar to that occasion, ‘Final Reckoning’ left a lasting impression, being hailed as a franchise high point by both fans and reviewers.

In addition, Tom Cruise is embarking on a fast-paced global press trip, which includes stops in Seoul, Tokyo, and London.  At a special Cannes master class dedicated to Christopher McQuarrie, Tom Cruise paused to praise the filmmaker for his in-depth, precise knowledge of the ‘Mission: Impossible’ series and all of its components.

 Ethan Hunt and his IMF team are in a race against time to prevent a deadly assassin from taking control of The Entity, an unpredictable and very dangerous rogue artificial intelligence, in ‘The Final Reckoning’, which begins immediately following the explosive events of ‘Dead Reckoning’.

Among the priciest movies ever produced, ‘Final Reckoning’ had a production budget of around $400 million and was delayed by strikes in the industry.  On 23rd May, the movie opens in theatres all over the world.  Tom Cruise's remarkable Cannes appearance guarantees that there will be the most excitement when it arrives.
