Tyra Banks Says Taylor Swift and Idris Elba Should Star in ‘The Bodyguard’ Remake

Idris Elba and Taylor Swift will play the main characters in Tyra Banks' ambitious plan for the next adaptation of ‘The Bodyguard’.

Recently, it was announced that a new version of the classic 1992 movie, which first starred Kevin Costner and Whitney Houston, was formally under development.  The remake will be directed by Sam Wrench, who also directed Taylor Swift's 2023 concert film, ‘The Eras Tour’.

Tyra Banks, a guest co-host on ‘Today with Jenna & Friends’, expressed her enthusiasm for the project and opinions about who should play the lead role.  She recommended Swift, 35, for the lead part, saying she was so excited to learn about the remake and that the first film was "everything" to her.

Swift would be a powerful option both artistically and commercially, according to Banks, who also predicted significant box office success.  In addition, she offered a novel interpretation of the well-known couple, picturing a casting switch with a white female protagonist and a black man bodyguard. She suggested Idris Elba opposite Swift and described the possible combination as "hot."

She continued by saying that she is now in discussions with 52-year-old Elba about collaborating, adding that they have been corresponding on WhatsApp and that she is attempting to arrange a romantic project with him.  However, Banks stated unequivocally that she would not play the lead part herself, acknowledging that it requires a powerful vocalist.

Swift and Elba previously collaborated on the 2019 ‘Cats’ movie, and Swift's song ‘London Boy’ from her ‘Lover’ album even included Elba's voice.  In an interview, Elba once praised Swift, saying she worked hard and brought a lot of enthusiasm to the set.
