‘Venom: The Last Dance’ Struggles With Low Rotten Tomatoes Score

‘Venom: The Last Dance’ has received reviews, and it appears that the movie is having trouble taking off. Similar to the series' earlier entries, this most recent film has a dismal Rotten Tomatoes rating. These early evaluations might make some viewers wait until the film is made accessible for streaming, as the formal debut is scheduled in a few days.

Critics have given ‘Venom: The Last Dance’ a 37% approval rating thus far. The widespread agreement is that Brock's final performance—or at least Tom Hardy's—falls flat, however, this score may change as additional critiques are received.

In a scathing critique of the film, Howard Waldstein of CBR said, "’ Venom 3’ rivals ‘Joker 2’ for the worst superhero movie of all time." RogerEbert.com's Christy Lemire rated it 1.5 stars, describing the pacing as "frustratingly erratic," while acknowledging that there are some ridiculously entertaining moments throughout the movie.

However, fans might not be very shocked. The franchise had a rough start when the first ‘Venom’ film came out with a poor 30% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. With a 57% rating, 2021's ‘Venom: Let There Be Carnage’ did marginally better since reviewers thought the movie was more entertaining than its predecessor. The first film received an audience score of 80%, while the sequel received 84%, indicating that audiences have consistently appreciated the movie despite the critical reaction.

Screenwriter Kelly Marcel, who penned the first two films, makes her directorial debut with ‘Venom: The Last Dance’. Along with a cast that includes Cristo Fernández, Rhys Ifans, Alanna Ubach, Chiwetel Ejiofor, and Juno Temple, Tom Hardy reprises his role as Eddie Brock. This Friday, 25th October, is the film's theatrical debut.

The same trend of disagreement between reviewers and fans regarding the film's merit may apply to ‘Venom: The Last Dance’.

Sony continues to support the ‘Venom’ franchise despite its poor reviews from critics because of its movie office success. Globally, the first film made an incredible $856 million, and the sequel made $506 million. Sony is unlikely to drop the character as the series is already generating billions of dollars, especially when compared to other Marvel-Sony properties.
