Victoria Beckham Reveals the Insecurity Behind Never Smiling in Photos

Over the years, Victoria Beckham has talked candidly about the reasons behind her frequently firm facial expressions in pictures, stating that skin-related anxieties caused them. Known for maintaining a composed demeanour in public, the fashion designer and former pop star has often talked about her battles with acne-prone skin. She revealed in a recent interview with The Telegraph that she was afraid to smile in pictures because she didn’t feel secure enough to look cheerful due to her skin irritation.

In the interview, where she received the first-ever Beauty Brand of the Year award, Victoria talked about how she managed her skin by following a clean diet and consulting skincare experts. Thinking back on her previous self-consciousness, she said that she likely came across as harsh in a lot of photos, but it was actually a product of her extreme discomfiture with the way she looked. Her eating habits were also impacted by her fears. Victoria Beckham’s husband, David Beckham, once revealed that she has been eating the same meal every day for 25 years: grilled fish and steamed veggies. Victoria is notorious for adhering to a strict diet.

Victoria clarified that her rigorous dietary restrictions, which excluded things like meat and wheat, were motivated by her desire to maintain clear skin. She feels much more at ease in her own flesh today, though. She even feels comfortable enough to attend events without wearing a lot of makeup and smiling for photos these days. She reflected on this transformation, saying that she would never have thought to walk the red carpet without foundation and with only a hint of concealer a few years ago, but she did so recently.

Victoria said that growing older has been liberating and that it has allowed her to stop worrying about comments on social media. Her comments followed her attendance at a banquet honouring her partnership with Mytheresa when she wore a stylish white dress with no back.
